Amazon S3 is storage for the Internet. It allows you to offload your entire storage infrastructure onto the cloud, where you can take advantage of Amazon S3’s scalability and pay-as-you-go pricing to handle your growing storage needs. If your applications are in the cloud so should your data.
Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. P2 uses these web services to store your files, documents, and attachments. The Standard Storage package for Amazon S3 is popular among large enterprise P2 customers. Typically P2 customers do not need additional file storage or an increase to the file size limit but this integration with Amazon S3 gives you the ability to use an alternate that is extremely cost effective and easy to set up.
The advantages of using Amazon S3 are:
- Cost Effective alternative if your file upload needs exceed what you get with your P2 license.
- You get the same Security and Durability standards as Amazon uses for their own web applications.
- All storage is handled by Amazon S3 Cloud storage system, which includes encrypted file storage, transmission and secure access.
- You can use the Amazon S3 storage account for storing documents, files that you need outside of P2 as well. It is a great avenue of storing files and investing in storage hardware.
